As a visual element, color plays an important role in architectural design. There are mainly psychological and physiological effects of color. The psychological effect of color is produced through physiological effects; that is, it is perceived by the eyes and then reacted to by the brain. After being stimulated by color, people react to color, which has a great impact on people's bodies and minds, and can influence people's emotions and behaviors.

For example, in the use of hospital doors, in a red environment, due to the stimulation of red, people's heartbeat and pulse can be accelerated, thus producing a sense of heat. On the contrary, a blue environment will give people a feeling of quietness and loneliness, weakening their heartbeat and pulse. This is the physiological and psychological impact of color on people. Research on the physiological effects of color shows that the "red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple" of the spectrum is the same as the degree of stimulation of color on people, from excitement to depression. Therefore, green in the middle of the spectrum is called "physiological balance color".

Research shows that the human brain and eyes need the gray in the middle. If this gray is lacking, it will become unstable and unable to get balance and rest. After World War II, American color experts took the lead in applying "color adjustment" technology to the operating room of the hospital. Painting the white wall green can not only stabilize the doctor's mood, but also eliminate the visual fatigue caused by long-term viewing of blood red in the hospital. This change greatly improves the doctor's work efficiency.

In hospital buildings, except for the special medical space, the color of large areas should be light and elegant, suitable for using high-brightness, low-chroma blending colors, and the color of the building group should form a unified and coordinated tone. For the color of the inpatient ward, warm colors can be selected for the northern region, while cold colors should be selected for the southern region. Bright colors should be selected for children's wards to liven up the atmosphere. Colored glass windows and dark tiles should not be installed in the consulting room and observation room to avoid the transmission and reflection of light, changing the color of the patient's skin and internal tissues and organs, interfering with the doctor's correct judgment.
